Gnolls are ferocious, cruel humanoid hyenamen, standing seven feet tall with pronounced stoops. They are nocturnal carnivores and raiders that target other intelligent folk for plunder and food. Gnolls reek of rotten meat and sweaty, dirty hides. They prefer heavy chopping weapons such as blades and axes. These humanoids speak the yipping and snarling language of hyenas and frequently keep them as pets.

The Blackmane Gnolls are a particularly fearsome tribe that dwells in the Westbarrow Hills. The tribe counts many rangers among its kind, not to mention several clerics of the gnoll deity Manganaw the Harrier. The aging matriarch of the tribe is a cunning, one-eyed gnoll known as Scaral Manyteat, a reference to the many gnoll pups she has birthed, as well as the many short-lived mates she has taken.
