In 1964, Ford went to the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the intension of beating Ferrari, but they did not achieve this goal. Â So then in 1966 they returned and won the 24 hours of Le Mans. Then they won it again three more times in a row. Â Then 50 years later, Ford returned to the famous race with a brand new Ford GT. Â This time the big V-8 was replaced with a 3.5 liter Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V-6 with intercoolers. Â It won the very competitive GTE-Pro class and celebrated a triumphant return.

The Ford GT factory racing effort is run by the ultra-successful Chip Ganassi Racing Team. Â In addition to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the team competes in both the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championships. Â The winning tradition started with the original GT-40s continues today. Â Just like the originals, a very limited number of street legal Ford GTs will be offered to the public for a very short time.
